Why do so many people need supplemental vitamin A?

And if you’re looking for answers, you’re going to have to ask a doctor, says Dr. Paul Hahn, a pediatrician at Boston Children’s Hospital who treats more than 30,000 children with vitamin A deficiency.
The vitamin is vital to human health, and vitamin A is used in the body for its ability to prevent cancer, fight infections, treat infections, fight colds and asthma, as well as in many other areas.
Hahn says it’s very important to get enough of it, and if you don’t get enough, you can end up with a vitamin A overdose.
But the answer is not as simple as you might think.
Vitamin A can be taken as part of a daily multivitamin, but you need to do it daily, not every day, he says.
Some people have to take it daily because they are elderly or sick.
Other people can’t get adequate vitamin A because they have been taking it for more than a few weeks.
In any case, the best way to get adequate amounts of vitamin A for children is to get them to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and not take a lot of supplements, Hahn recommends.
A daily multigrain cereal or some other protein-rich food will help the body absorb the vitamin A. Hint: The best source of vitamin a is a healthy cow.
You can also get it from fortified dairy products.
It’s available from most grocery stores.
If you can’t afford a vitamin a supplement, you should try eating a few vegetables or a grain or two a day.
That may be a little bit of a challenge, but it will do the trick, Hain says.
